Introducing Our Little One

I'm finally back to writing after a seemingly long and busy (read: tiresome) 3rd trimester... Between baby showers and overall preparing ourselves and our apartment for our new little baby, I have hardly had time to sit down! Now that he has arrived (and comfortably asleep in his swing), I thought I would write a little update and introduction.

At 39 weeks pregnant, and after about 2 weeks of me complaining that I was "too pregnant", I went into labour. I finally arrived at the hospital here in Ottawa on September 8th at about 6pm. For everyone's sake, I am going to skip ahead to 18 hours and one fully natural childbirth later - when my son finally arrived. I have never been so happy (and relieved) in my life. I think it is funny that so many people ask whether it is painful - if you are one of those people wondering, yes it is very painful to have a baby. But that being said, there is no feeling like the one you have once it is all over. As I'm sure many other mamas can attest, once you are holding a precious little bundle in your hands you don't hardly remember what you've just been through.

Matteo Santiago Torres Barreto was born on September 9th at 8:42am, weighing 6lbs 9oz. It took us almost an entire day to finally come up with his name, but it suits him so well and I'm glad we waited to decide! Though he was born a tiny little thing, Matteo is already passed his birth weight only a week later. He is both eating and sleeping so well, making me one grateful mama! I can't help but feel overwhelmingly blessed, not only to have such a beautiful, healthy son but also that Matteo has such a wonderful papa and loving, supportive family.

As I recover and settle into our new routine, I hope to write more posts on life as a new mama, and continue to do posts about recipes and fashion along the way (more regular updates always available on insta - @alixasamom)!

Hopefully you enjoyed this short post about little Matteo, and are looking forward to the next one as much as I am looking forward to writing it!
